The West Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program connects the academic health centers at the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville with medically under-served communities throughout the commonwealth to address Kentucky health care access problems.

West AHEC works in its 14-county service area to accomplish this goal by:

• Coordinating student clinical training in local communities
• Providing continuing education for health professionals close to home
• Working with local schools in health careers promotion
• Facilitating the development of community education events that meet community needs
• Supporting library networks to meet the information needs of students and health care practitioners in the region
