Trover Rural Interim SessionThe Trover Rural Scholar (TRS) program began in 2002. The TRS is for students from one of 23 rural western Kentucky counties (PEPP and non-PEPP) who may be most likely to become physicians and return to similar communities. Because the TRS is directed to college freshmen who attend Kentucky colleges that choose to participate, there is a group of students who cannot attend the TRS. This group includes upperclassmen who did not participate in TRS earlier as well as those who attend non-participating colleges. Therefore, the Trover Rural Health Interim Session (TRIS) was established in 2005. The goal of the TRIS program is to provide an opportunity in rural health studies for pre-medical students from one of the 23 rural western Kentucky counties. TRIS participants will benefit from an alternative opportunity to study rural health and demonstrate their commitment to future rural practice. An individualized letter of recommendation from the Trover Campus Dean to the ULSOM Admissions Committee will be based on the TRIS participant's performance. The program is a one-week session in early January, during semester break for most colleges. A stipend and free lodging in Madisonville are provided. The interim session will include rural health overviews, case studies with Dr. Crump, and shadowing. Deadline is October 15 for the following January session. The student application for the Trover Rural Health Interim Session program is available for download here along with the Program flyer. Please note: applicants must submit a copy of their application packet to their Premedical advisor and send the original to the address listed on the application.
